Public Health Dentistry is that branch of dentistry which provides leadership and expertise in population-based dentistry, oral health surveillance, policy development, community-based disease prevention and health promotion and the maintenance of the dental safety net.

Dental Public Health (DPH) is unique among the specialties in that it is a specialty whose practitioners focus on dental and oral health issues in communities and populations rather than individual patients.

To overcome the difficulty of urban orientation of oral health care services, we strive to make all the specialty services available to the rural population at their doorstep through outreach programs. Deprived areas like urban slums are also covered. The Department of Public Health Dentistry is dedicated to meeting the health needs of the community through available knowledge and resources.

The services provided by the department cover the full range of preventive, curative and rehabilitative services at no cost whatsoever to the people through:

1. Satellite centres, which are dental clinics.

2. Regular dental health care programmes (rural / urban camps).

3. School dental health programmes.

4. Awareness programmes using charts, models and performing skits to provide comprehensive oral health care in around 250 km of Udaipur.

The department has one clinic for undergraduate students. We also have an oral health museum which has models, posters and other educative material displayed for the general public and patients to see.

This area is also used to counsel and motivate patients awaiting treatment, school children and people accompanying them.
