The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology serves as the gateway to patient care at Pacific Dental College & Research Centre. The department is dedicated to the early diagnosis and management of oral diseases, with special emphasis on potentially malignant disorders, oral cancer, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and other oral mucosal lesions. We equip students with comprehensive diagnostic skills through clinical training and the use of advanced diagnostic techniques.

The Oral Radiology unit is well equipped with modern digital imaging technology, including four intraoral X-ray units, two digital radiography systems, and one digital Orthopantomogram (OPG) machine, supported by facilities for radiographic film processing. Students receive extensive training in intraoral and extraoral radiographic techniques, image interpretation, and radiographic diagnosis, enabling them to develop strong clinical decision-making skills.

As the first point of contact for patients, our students perform thorough oral examinations, establish provisional diagnoses, and refer patients to the appropriate dental specialties for comprehensive treatment. The department emphasizes the development of clinical competence and confidence in identifying and managing a wide range of oral health conditions encountered in routine practice.

The department also actively supports the Tobacco Cessation Centre, established by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, by providing evidence-based tobacco cessation counselling. Patients using smoked and smokeless tobacco products receive individualized counselling through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches, promoting healthier lifestyles and contributing to the prevention of oral diseases.
